Another Brief Update

Nothing else of mention occurred Tuesday. We made a trip to the grocery store and had a very chill night.

Wednesday, July 6th - The International Criminal Court

I have to preface this by saying there unfortunately aren't any pictures because they are strictly forbidden in the ICC.

It was interesting, but we didn't get to do what I really wanted to do, which was witness an actual hearing. We have the option of going back and watching whenever, but it would have been so much more convenient if one had been going on. It's a very interesting court. Although it doesn't have much power, I think it's a step in the right direction in terms of international law gaining more reputation over time. International law is still a very much developing area of law, so a lot of work has yet to be done.

After our court visit, we went shopping a bit and to the train station to see about finding transport to London. Since it was such short notice, I guess that means tickets become obscenely expensive. The guy looked at us with a straight face and told us it would be 528 Euros to go to London. After an awkward moment of disbelief, we obviously declined and proceeded to cancel our reservations for the hostel and the bike tour.

As much as I really, really want to go to London, I'd rather have money for the rest of our trip and see other places. I'll come back to London and do it up right sometime, but it just wasn't meant to be. That's part of what this experience is about - learning how to efficiently get around Europe and suffering certain consequences if we can't. Such is life, no?

After our disappointing train station experience, we went to a bar with a couple people and just hung out before bed.

Thursday, July 7th - Back to Amsterdam

More on this later since it's only 10:20 a.m. here, but after class basically our entire group is planning to go to Amsterdam. So we'll be the resident experts! I'm excited to go back. There's also talk of going to Germany this weekend (budget permitting), so I'm sure we'll still have plenty of adventures even absent London.

No real pictures to upload this time, next time for sure! Update soon :)
